Testing Accommodations Policy for the BCPA Exam

How to Request Accommodations

Examination candidates seeking accommodations must complete a Request for Accommodation form either at the time of application or no later than 30 days prior to the start of the exam cycle for which they intend to test. The request must include appropriate supporting documentation that verifies the need for the accommodation. Submission of the request authorizes PACB and its contracted testing providers to review and verify the documentation solely for the purpose of evaluating the accommodation request.

Important Timeline and Process Notes

All requests and supporting materials will be handled with strict confidentiality. The submitted documentation is used exclusively to assess the need for accommodations and will not be disclosed outside that process. Candidates must submit adequate and timely documentation for each requested accommodation. Incomplete or late submissions may delay the review process and prevent the candidate from scheduling or taking the examination within their intended testing window.

Candidates may request more than one accommodation, but each request must be clearly supported by relevant documentation. No examination will be scheduled or administered until the accommodation request process has been fully completed and a final determination has been made.

PACB must receive and review this accommodation request form and supporting documentation before you schedule your examination appointment.

Your certification application and your accommodation request will be reviewed separately. Please note that an approved certification application does not mean that your accommodation request is approved.

Reasonable Accommodations for Remote Proctoring Tests

Candidates taking remote-proctored exams, such as the BCPA, are eligible for a variety of reasonable accommodations to ensure equitable access and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related standards. The specific accommodations available for remote proctoring are determined by both the exam provider’s policies and the technical capabilities of the remote testing platform.

Common Reasonable Accommodations for Remote Proctoring

Extended Testing Time: Candidates with documented needs may be granted extra time to complete the exam, typically 1.5 times (or more) the standard testing duration.

Additional Breaks: Candidates may be allowed extra breaks during the exam. For remote proctoring, breaks must typically be taken in view of the proctor, and leaving the camera view may result in termination of the session

Screen Reader Technology: Approved screen reader software (such as JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver) is supported for candidates with visual impairments, as long as it is compatible with the testing platform

Screen Magnification and Modifiable Screen Colors: Candidates may use screen magnification tools or adjust screen colors/contrast to meet their needs

Use of Approved Auxiliary Items: Candidates may be permitted to have food, drinks, or medication at their testing station, as well as access to necessary medical devices (e.g., insulin pumps, inhalers, EpiPens, continuous glucose monitors, oxygen tanks, hearing aids, etc.)

Tissues, Eyeglasses, and Hearing Devices: Use of tissues/Kleenex, prescription eyeglasses (including tinted lenses), and hearing aids or cochlear implants is permitted.

Important Notes

  1. All accommodations must be requested in advance and supported by appropriate documentation from a qualified medical professional.
  2. Candidates must remain within view of the proctor at all times unless otherwise authorized; leaving the camera view may result in exam termination.
  3. The feasibility of certain accommodations may depend on the technical limitations of the remote proctoring platform and the need to maintain exam security and integrity.
